Do you accept private pay?

Yes. You do not need to use insurance to receive services at Safe Harbor. Private-pay rates are $120 per psychotherapy session and $60 per coaching session. Groups and classes may have separate fees, and some may be offered free of charge. Please see the individual group or class listing for current pricing. Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes. Safe Harbor offers both in-person and virtual appointments for clients located in Pennsylvania. We offer in-person appointments as well as secure virtual appointments for clients in Pennsylvania. In-person office appointments are located inside Lighthouse Church at 700 Hammond Lane, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Do you provide Christian counseling?

Yes. Safe Harbor of Hope Counseling is a Christian professional counseling and coaching practice. Our faith is an important part of who we are and the foundation of our organization. For clients who desire it, Christian faith, Scripture, prayer, and biblical principles can be thoughtfully incorporated into the counseling process. At the same time, counseling is a collaborative process, and we meet each client where they are.

Do I have to be a Christian to use Safe Harbor?

No. We welcome clients of all faith backgrounds and those with no faith tradition.

Is counseling the same as coaching?

No. Counseling is a professional mental health service focused on emotional well-being, mental health concerns, healing, and personal growth. Coaching is generally more future-focused and goal-oriented, helping individuals or couples clarify goals, navigate challenges, develop practical strategies, and move forward. Coaching services at Safe Harbor are provided by Dr. Don Steffy, DMin, and include life, leadership, marriage, ministry, and first responder/military coaching.

How often will I need to attend therapy or coaching?

There isn't one schedule that works for everyone. The frequency of sessions depends on your needs, goals, circumstances, the appropriate treatment approach, and your personal financial concerns. Your counselor or coach will work with you to determine a schedule that is most appropriate for you.

How long is a therapy session?

Session length and frequency may vary depending on the type of service and your individual needs. Generally, therapy sessions are approximately 55 minutes. Your counselor will discuss the details of your appointments with you when you begin services.

Are groups and classes available all the time?

No. Groups and classes are offered periodically throughout the year. Some are designed as support groups, while others focus on psychoeducation, personal growth, relationships, faith, or other specific topics. Some offerings are free, while others are available for a private-pay fee. Check back regularly for upcoming opportunities.

Can I attend a group without being an individual therapy client?

Some groups may be open to the general community, while others may have specific participation requirements. Each group or class listing will provide information about who the offering is designed for, cost, registration, and any other requirements.

Is everything I share confidential?

Counseling is provided within applicable professional, legal, and ethical requirements regarding confidentiality and privacy. At the beginning of services, your counselor will explain confidentiality and its limits as part of the informed-consent process.
